I
remain determined to help facilitate our transition to renewable
energy sources as quickly as possible. Last summer, during a trip
to Europe, I traveled to Denmark to visit the international headquarters of Vestas,
one of the world's major producers of wind turbines, and met
with their Vice President for U.S. Sales and Marketing to discuss the potential
for implementing this technology in the United States, and, more specifically, within
our district. He referred me to two New York State wind energy
companies which which I then contacted. While they are currently focusing
on northern New York, a “wind
map” indicates that some parts of Westchester and Rockland
Counties might be suitable for future wind turbine development. Those
New York communities which have participated in these projects have received
sizable property tax contributions and have also benefited
by the creation of new jobs. As your congressman,
I will continue to proactively seek solutions to our local
and national energy problems.
